Sept. 17 is a special day for the Bartow chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, for it was on that day 82 years ago, in 1930, the chapter was organized.
Sept. 17 is a special day for another related reason, and one not necessarily confined to the DAR. Through the efforts of the now-late West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd — who is reported to have always carried a copy of the Constitution with him — Sept. 17 was designated Constitution Day. Throughout the U.S., public schools and government offices are required to provide educational programs to promote a better understanding of the Constitution. It is also part of celebrating Constitution Week, which was implemented Aug. 2, 1956.
