Interest in Bowlegs Creek Civil War battle growing

Authentic Civil War camps will be open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The highlight of the event is the Battle of Bowlegs Creek reenactment which will happen Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

On April 7, 1864, the only Civil War battle in Polk County was fought at Bowlegs Creek near the Peace River south of Fort Meade.
During the war, Florida was the breadbasket of the Confederacy, and Fort Meade played an important role, supplying some of its cattle.
