With the intersection of Van Fleet Drive and Broadway using temporary lanes and has been under construction for four months it can be confusing. Bartow Police Department has begun ticketing drivers who block the intersection.
The intersection of Broadway Avenue and Van Fleet Drive may cost drivers headaches until its scheduled finish in the fall, but if you don’t watch yourself, it could cost you money too as the Bartow Police Department is patrolling the intersection and issuing citations to those who block it.
Due in a large part to complaints to the police department, patrolmen will be manning the intersection and last week it issued 11 citations, said Sgt. David Wyant. And at rush hour on Thursday afternoon, the Community Services Team and the Alpha Squad issued 20 citations in about an hour, 19 of them for blocking the intersection. Wyant said in a press release that blocking an intersection is Florida statute violation with a $164 fine.
