The construction of this bridge over Horse Creek delayed the reopening of the Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road for several months. The bridge replacement was part of the ancillary construction of the new Ernest Smith Boulevard which is slated for opening soon.

A car zips over the new bridge over Horse Creek on the Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road which recently reopened after being closed to through traffic during the construction of the new U.S. 98/U.S. 17 link, Ernest Smith Boulevard. Smith Boulevard is slated for completion within the next several months.

Construction continues on Ernest Smith Boulevard which will provide a direct link from U.S. Highway 98 north of Bartow to U.S. Highway 17. The new highway is expected to open this spring or early summer, according to reports.
Old Bartow/Eagle Lake Road reopened over the weekend after the construction of Ernest M. Smith Boulevard project linking U.S. Highway 17 to U.S. Highway 98.
Traffic signals at the new intersection will flash red while that roadway remains under construction, the Polk County government reports.
