Work continues to expand the roadway from four to six lanes on U.S. 98 from County Road 540A to Winter Lake Road and drivers should expect northbound and/or southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for several months. Northbound traffic remains shifted onto newly constructed travel lanes from C.R. 540A to Clubhouse Road. Southbound traffic remains shifted onto newly constructed lanes from S.R. 540 — Winter Lake Road — to Autumnwood Grove Boulevard.
Roadway reconstruction and installation of new roadway drainage pipe requires a temporary road closure at Clubhouse Road east of U.S. 98 which started this week. Motorists and residents are asked to use Hancock Avenue SE and 1st Street as a temporary detour route. In addition, The Fort Fraser Trail at Clubhouse Road will be closed while crews perform this work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured across U.S. 98 at the school signalized crossing north of Central Avenue and at the north side of Clubhouse Road. This temporary road closure is scheduled for approximately two weeks, the Florida Department of Transportation reports.
Also on Winter Lake Road, from west of the Circle ‘B’ Bar Reserve entrance to west of Saddle Creek Bridge crews continue grading slopes and ditches to improve drainage. There will be lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. This schedule is to be in effect for several weeks.
On State Road 540 east of the State Farm entrance crews will be removing pipe from the ditch area and placing limerock for the new turn lane. There will be lane closures on the eastbound lanes from 6-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.
On State Road 60 from Northeast 12th Avenue to Kid Ellis Road in Mulberry, crews will place casing for underground utilities beneath S.R. 60. No lane closures are scheduled, but motorists should use caution in the area and watch for workers, FDOT reported.
On State Road 37 at the Mulberry Bridge from South of State Road 60 over the Alafia River, there will be no lane closures required while crews work on the retention pond, roadway base and lighting, bridge barrier walls and pedestrian railings.
