Bartow should schedule workshop

There was an article in the Lakeland Ledger on Feb. 25, 2013 entitled, “Workshop Seeks Input on Services” that urged residents to attend and share their thoughts regarding the services of various city departments. It stated that, “Information gathered from the workshop will help with the city’s budgeting.” To me, this seems as it would be a more productive way of sharing thoughts, pro or con, than all the grumbling around town which nobody listens to anyway, much less logically considers.

I would like to suggest that the Bartow City Commission consider scheduling a meeting such as this. It wouldn’t be such a bad idea to schedule some ongoing meetings where the citizens could discuss ideas they have that might enhance services and budgeting. To me, this seems as if it would be a more productive way of sharing and listening to our town folks’ ideas. It is obvious that the time restraints in the regular city commission meetings do not allow for a great deal of constructive rhetoric.

My wife and I moved here in 1969, and do passionately love Bartow. I am convinced that there are more great thinkers here than just on the Board of City Commissioners or the department heads of the various service agencies. I would like to have ample opportunity to hear what they think without such rigid restraints.

Thanks for your attention and I will conclude my comments. I think my five minutes are about up anyway.
