Richard Allen “Rick” Maits, 86, of Fort Meade, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in Auburndale.

Mr. Maits was born June 18, 1926, in Bartow, and moved to Fort Meade from Abbeville, Ala., in 2001. He was retired from the Polk County Board of County Commissioners and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He attended Lena Vista Baptist Church in Auburndale.

Rick enjoyed fishing and lending a helping hand to other people, and relied daily on his faith in God.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Azalene Maits, and son, Fred Howard Maits.

Survivors include his special friend, Glenda Kirkland of Auburndale; daughter, Pamela Hammac of Winter Haven; grandson, Mark Warburton of Fort Meade; multiple other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Visitation: Friday, Aug. 24, from
6-8 p.m., at Hancock Funeral Home, Fort Meade.

Funeral: Saturday, Aug. 25, at
10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Matheny officiating. Interment will follow of Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
