Child struck by car on Bay Street

There were no survivors in this crash that was on east State Road 60, Wednesday morning. A large stretch of the highway was closed in both directions for much of the day, opening one lane each way around 2:30 p.m. Resurfacing work will have to take place, according to the PCSO, as the fire burned the asphalt on the road.

Polk County Sheriff's Office detectives recorded the scene via camera and video camera, taking measurements and gathering other information after the tragic accident.
Officers responded to the area of 7th Avenue and Bay Street Wednesday around 6 p.m. in response to reports of a child being struck by a car.
According to the Bartow Police Department, investigation thus far shows Kim Remone Moland from Fort Meade was travelling westbound on Bay Street near the intersection of 7th avenue. Upon reaching this location the minor, who was riding a small scooter, travelled into the travel path of Moland’s vehicle. The minor was struck by the vehicle and subsequently transported to Tampa Hospital via helicopter, police said.
