DeSoto County Commis-sioners Judy Schaefer and Ronald Neads said goodbye to their board colleagues Tuesday at the bimonthly public meeting of the panel. Schaefer lost her District 3 seat to Gabriel Quave, and Neads opted to retire after 12 years as the District 5 commissioner. He will be replaced by Bob Miller. Both men will be sworn in on Nov. 20.

There was no mistaking that Neads is heading off to retirement as he attended the meeting wearing a straw hat, novelty sunglasses with blinking lights, a Hawaiian beach shirt, shorts and flip-flops. He also placed two (empty) plastic Margarita glasses on either side of his nameplate.
