Arcadia Elks honor veterans, celebrate Marines’ birthday

Members of the U.S. Marines Corps are Ed Lyne, Ray Bradshaw, Joe Varnadore, Ron Kocher, Jerry Stidman, Joe Newton, Nick Battles, Justin Battles, Gary Painter, Tim Hager, Lee Gallagher, Alan Gilmore, Ernest Rose, Mike Raines, Tomika Birdine, Stephen H. Sliva and Joe Kozlik. They took part in a ceremony sponsored by the Arcadia Elks on Saturday to honor veterans.

The cutting of the Marine Corps cake, in honor of the Corps' 237th birthday, was performed by the youngest Marine at the event, L.Cpl. Nick Battles, and the oldest Marine and former sheriff, Joe Varnadore.
