Today I’m sending this out as a thank you note to all who congratulated me and wished me well for my birthday last week. As a young man, I guessed that birthdays wouldn’t seem like very much, since they would’ve had so many by the time they reached “that age.” Since I joined their ranks several years back, I found out that I was woefully wrong — nevermind the cake and ice cream, because us ol’ geezers are glad just to have reached another one!
How old am I? Well, as the old saying goes, I’m as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth. I decided to tally all the candles that would’ve adorned my cakes, if each year had been represented by the correct number of them. That totaled up to a whopping 1,710 this year, in case you’d like to figure my age out. That’s a heap of candles, and I think I just figured out why I feel like such an antique.
