If the past was only recorded in our memories, there’s no telling how the stories, characters and facts would change down through the generations. Nobody loves trips down memory lane any more than I do, and I have a decent grasp on things that happened which I was involved in or witnessed. But I am very thankful that we have newspaper archives we can explore, though I know mistakes in names, dates, etc. are sometimes recorded there as well.
I dug through a number of very old issues of The Arcadian awhile back and made some notes that interested me, and I hope you like them as well. I’m particularly interested in Nocatee’s history, since I was raised there, and because I know a lot of it is in the path of the four-laning project for Highway 17. So I’d like to share some of what I’ve found with you today.
