Our view: DeSoto needs to take a proactive role to usher in our future.
Amazon — that giant Internet company as huge as its name implies — wanted to build an operations center here in Florida, bringing 3,000 new jobs. Gov. Rick Scott at first turned them down, because Floridians would have to pay sales tax on items ordered through Amazon if the company had a physical presence in the Sunshine State.
Later, however, Scott apparently had a change of heart and decided to welcome the online behemoth here. Word is they are looking in the Tampa area to build a 1-million-square-foot warehouse.
