Christine McAnly Cochran
Christine McAnly Cochran, 91, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.
She was born March 2, 1921, in Danville, Ky.
Christine was a graduate of DeSoto County High School after her parents moved to Arcadia in the 1930s. After serving in the U.S. Navy, she returned to Arcadia with her husband in 1959 from Falls Church, Va. Christine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, prior to becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia. She was a World War II Navy Veteran. Prior to her retirement, Christine worked for the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce and Central Maloney in Arcadia. Christine loved animals and playing bridge. She was a sports fanatic who enjoyed watching football, NASCAR and her favorite baseball team, the Tampa Bay Rays. Christine was the matriarch of the family. She was the last living relative of her generation.
Christine is survived by her son, Mike (Mary Beth Pridgeon Cochran) Cochran of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, Sandra (fiancé, Steve Stevens) Cochran of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughters, Holly Cochran of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tara Cochran of Ashburn, Va.; cousins, Debi (Jack) Kidd, Roy Ola, Jenny Watson, Connie Watson and Denise Watson; nieces, Kay Dees and Kerry Wegener; and nephews, Bill McAnly and Jimmy McAnly. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mattie Condor McAnly; husband, Ralph J. Cochran; brothers, Theodore, Hubert and Slim McAnly; sisters, Dora and Annie McAnly, and Flossie Pemberton; and nieces, Ruth Ola and Geneva Watson.
A memorial service to celebrate Christine Cochran’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or the Humane Society in Christine’s name. Online condolences can be made at www.pongerkaysgrady.com.
