PORT CHARLOTTE — It pained him to say so, but Tampa Bay reliever Joel Peralta officially announced Sunday that he would not take part in the World Baseball Classic.
The right-hander was named to the Dominican Republic’s roster and entered the spring amid concerns that he might be overworked heading into the season.
