Port Charlotte falls in opener

FORT MYERS — Riverdale beat Port Charlotte 25-19, 25-22, 25-11 in a nondistrict contest Monday in the season-opener for both teams.

Port Charlotte was without starting setter Katie Stewart, who sustained a concussion in Thursday’s preseason finale against Sarasota Christian. Pirates coach Chrissy Burkhart praised the defensive play of senior libero Jenna Sutter against big-hitting Riverdale, and said Courtney Robertson led the team in digs.
