Area residents repor-ted signs Monday of red tide algae bloom and a subsequent fish kill on the barrier islands south of Stump Pass.

“It smells like sour clam chowder,” said Ken Conner, a 14-year Don Pedro Islander. He first caught the light stench of red tide Saturday. The smell became strong Sunday and even stronger late Monday. He has seen dead pinfish and other baitfish species washing up on shore.
