North Porter Marc Cohen thought he had nothing more than a case of strep throat when he went to the doctor in June 2011, only to learn that he had stage IV lung cancer.

“I had no clue at all,” Cohen said. “I was shocked. I had no symptoms of anything, which I later found out was not surprising, because our lungs don’t have nerve endings. Most cancers are found at a more advanced stage, especially in the lungs, because there are no nerve endings to sense their growth.”
