PUNTA GORDA — Local government workers who clawed their way up from the devastation of Hurricane Charley in 2004 know what it means to get a helping hand in a time of need.

That’s why this city’s employees have decided to hold a car wash Saturday and Sunday to help a similar small coastal town in northern New Jersey that got walloped by Hurricane Sandy Oct. 30-31.
