PALM ISLAND — Englewood Youth Soccer presented its first-ever 5K run Sunday on Palm Island. More than 100 runners registered for the race and more than 200 attended. Runners and spectators traveled by barge to the bridegeless barrier island. Nearly 300 kids from ages 5 through high school participate in youth soccer programs at the Englewood Sports Complex on River Road each year. The money raised at the event will go toward increasing registration and helping to provide scholarships, said Lindsay Mallard, Englewood Youth Soccer Association board member.
