Workers dismantle bleachers at the Punta Gorda Speedway Saturday. The action, taken by Kevin Williams, speedway owner, will make the track more difficult to re-establish, according to a previous owner, Leroy Davidson.
PUNTA GORDA — A crew working for Kevin Williams, owner of the Punta Gorda Speedway, began stripping the racetrack of its bleachers, light poles, concession equipment and fences, and hauled the materials out on flatbed trailers Saturday.
The move will make it more difficult for anyone else to re-establish stock car racing at the track, according to Leroy Davidson, a previous owner of the speedway who hopes to submit a proposal to operate it for the Charlotte County Airport Authority once Williams’ lease expires at the end of this month.
