College students Aras CrazyLugan Karaitis of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Matt Heathen Sornson of Boulder, Colo., were the second to arrive Saturday at Hooked on SUP at Cape Haze Marina in an 18-foot Hobie catamaran, on the first leg of a 300-mile boat race. Hooked on SUP was the first check-in point for sailors participating in the 300-mile Water Tribe Everglades Challenge from Tampa Bay to Key Largo. The race is for sea kayaks, canoes and small boats powered by wind and muscle. One of the race boats capsized and sank near the Venice Inlet in less-than-favorable weather, according to Paige Bakhaus with Hooked on SUP. The sailor was rescued with injuries.
