Bennett Rock and his wife Eunice moved to Englewood in 1957. A quirky event instigated their immediate involvement with the relatively new Englewood Fire Department.

The Rocks purchased property on which was located one of the fire department’s sirens. A stipulation of buying the property was that the owners, when alerted by a special phone in the house, had to go out in the yard and activate the siren. Although the Rocks were assured this rarely happened, the first day they were in their new house, they got the phone call that told them to go push the siren button.
