You still have time to be a voice in future history! The VIVA Florida commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the landing of Ponce de Leon on Florida’s shores includes a time capsule to be buried by each Florida county. A time capsule with articles of interest about Sarasota County will be buried on Dec. 14 at historic Spanish Point. Your ideas are needed. What activities, things, or events are important to you in 2013? Submit a one-page essay, drawing, or black and white photo that captures your ideas and your material may be included in the capsule. To submit your ideas, include your name, age, city and phone number with your thoughts or items and return to any Sarasota County Library by Saturday.

Don’t miss all the Pioneer Days fun this Labor Day weekend. On Saturday, the Cardboard Boat Races are from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Indian Mound Park. Then, don’t miss the Shipwrecked Dance at the Elks from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are still available. Visit the Pioneer Days Festival on West Dearborn Street from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 3 p.m. Monday. There will be music, vendors, food, car shows and more. Stop by the Englewood library booth on Monday and say hello.
