John W. Kallop

John W. “Jack” Kallop, 83, of Englewood, Fla., beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012.

He was born in Newark, N.J., April 24, 1929, to Prudence B. and Harry G. Kallop.

An avid swimmer, Jack was the state champion in the 50 Freestyle in high school. A 1951 graduate of Princeton University, Jack also served as a U.S. Marine in Korea, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his service in the Marines, Jack enjoyed a distinguished 32-year career with Prudential Insurance Company in Millville, N.J. During his time in New Jersey, Jack participated in countless volunteer activities, including coaching girls softball in the Vineland, N.J., Ponytail League.

Jack continued to be an active community volunteer after retiring from Prudential and moving to Englewood in 1985. He was very committed to FISH of Englewood, and also served as both Senior Warden as well as a Vestryman at St. David’s Episcopal Church. Jack’s commitment to service in his community and his church will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor M. (Lynn) Kallop; sons, Frank B. and Stephen P. Kallop; daughters, Shelley L. Kallop and Dorothy K. “Dottie” Tieslau; son-in-law, Richard E. Tieslau; and grandchildren, Justin M. Ruffini, Erica L. Kallop, Matthew K. Tieslau, Benjamin R. Tieslau and Luke S. Tieslau.

A Viewing will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, Fla. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 410 S. Broadway, Englewood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FISH of Englewood, P.O. Box 1636, Englewood, FL 34295; or St. David’s Perpetual Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are by Farley Funeral Homes.
