Peggy Totman

Peggy Totman, 83, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Fla.

She was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Auburn, Maine, and she had been a resident of Sarasota County for 27 years, coming from Needham, Mass.

A graduate of the University of Maine, she worked as an administrator/secretary in several school systems. Her positions with Broadmeadow School in Needham, and Montessori School in Morristown, N.J., were the most rewarding parts of her career. She retired in 1984 to become the devoted caregiver to her husband Carroll, who preceded her in death in 2011. Peggy was active in the Tangerine Woods Park as the coordinator of the Adopt-A-Family Program for several years; she served on many boards and committees, and she sang in the Crazy Eights and the Chorus. She was a volunteer in the SCSO Community Policing Program, and was named the 2005 Volunteer of the Year. Peggy was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, and served on the Altar Guild.

Survivors include her loving children, Sue Joachim of Rotonda West, Fla., Julie (Drake) Daniels of Hudson, N.H., and Brent (Rosemary) Totman of Centerville, Mass.; and seven grandchildren, Erica Joachim, Katie and Michael Landolfi, and Molly, Cara, Hannah and Lee Totman.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Christ Lutheran Church, 701 N. Indiana Ave., Englewood, with the Rev. Theresa Foster officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, (SCSO-Englewood Adopt-A-Family), 2071 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34237, in memory of Mrs. Peggy Totman.
