Evelyn “Louise” Shimkus, 99, of Englewood, Fla., passed away quietly Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.

Born on May 25, 1913, in Batavia, Iowa, she had been a resident of Sarasota County, Fla., for 33 years, coming from Southborough, Mass.

A loving wife, mother and homemaker for her family, she had been employed with Hendries Frozen Food for 10 years in Southborough. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and a member of the Women’s Guild, along with being a member of the Southern Woman’s Club and the Choral Group at Foxwood.

Survivors include her children, Margaret H. White of Stonington, Conn., Michael J. Shimkus of Englewood, Peter E. Shimkus of Southborough, and Raymond E. Shimkus of Westborough, Mass.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, to whom she was married for 58 years.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Interment and a memorial celebration will be announced at a later date, to be held in Southborough. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5559 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, in memory of Mrs. Shimkus. You may share a memory with the family at www.englewoodfh.com.
