Manuel “Jay” Meritzer, 89, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Jay and Anne moved to Rotonda West 25 years ago from Pittsburgh. He enjoyed his active years in Florida. Jay organized the annual Bunker Terrace Open, set up many summer reciprocals, and was maestro of a kazoo band. He loved his family, and enjoyed fishing and bridge. Golf was his passion. Before retiring he was a successful businessman in Pittsburgh, and served in U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Jay is greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Anne; son, Richard; daughter, Fran (Alton) Jolly; and granddaughters Tamara and Sarah.

The family will have a private service, to be followed by a celebration of his life from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the Hills Golf and Country Club. Contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
