NORTH PORT — There was a time not too long ago when tears of frustration may not only have been permissible but encouraged for Becky Halbert.

The North Port High School volleyball coach inherited a team so green three seasons ago that the girls had to be taught how to substitute properly, and she told the players they did not need to find rides home from away games, that the bus that brought them there would also take them back.
