Trey Norris of Frostproof has been named the Suncoast Conference “Fireman of the Year,” after setting a school record for pitching saves at Polk State College.

Norris developed a split-fingered fastball and curveball while adding speed to his fastball since last year.

He broke the school record for saves (14) and leads the NJCAA in the same category.

“He’s been lights out,” said Polk coach Al Corbeil. “He throws a 91-92 mph fastball and he keeps guys off it so he can throw his secondary stuff. He’s definitely been an anchor in our bullpen. He’s grown a lot as a person. He’s something this club really needed.”

Norris is 3-1 with an NJCAA-leading 14 saves and a 2.00 ERA. He’s fanned 29 in 21 innings. The previous school record for saves at Polk State was 12. He plans on attending Stetson University in the fall to continue his academic and athletic careers.
