School Board reaches consensus on search firm

Although they will not officially vote on a contract until January, Polk School Board members on Tuesday agreed that the Florida School Board Association should handle the search for a new superintendent.

The vacancy arose following the retirement of Sherrie Nickell, who cited family health issues as her reason for leaving. Former Polk Superintendent John Stewart is serving as interim superintendent until July, with a possible extension to December 2013.
