A Bluebird box in a garden at St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid awaits the arrival of Bluebirds.
The sighting of bluebird in the Lake Placid area has historically been rare, but more and more of the birds are being seen here with as many as 200 unique sightings in recent seasons. One reason may be the increase in bluebird nesting boxes that are springing up in the area.
The population of the birds has grown to a point that the Lake Placid Town Council plans to declare a proclamation at its Feb. 11 meeting naming Lake Placid as a Bluebird Sanctuary.
