Mike High, with wife Joyce by his side, receives a plaque from Lake Placid postmistress Tanya Schmidt at a surprise retirement party Saturday.
Mike High will close out a 33-year career with the United States Postal Service tomorrow (Thursday) when he will greet customers at the lobby counter of the local post office for the last time before officially retiring. “It might surprise you just how fast 33 years goes by,” he joked at a surprise party Sunday.
The gathering was at the home of fellow post office employee Laura Mielke and her husband, Bobby. More than 100 area residents were on hand at the party to salute High and wish him well in retirement. The guest listed included a “who’s who” of current and former post office employees and local business leaders.
