Highway signs recognize S.R. 66 as a part of the original Florida Cracker Trail.
Cattle drives from Florida’s pioneer days are being re-created this week when Florida Cracker Trail Association members ride horses and drive buggies from Bradenton to Fort Pierce.
The riders are scheduled to cross U.S. 27 at its intersection with S.R. 66, between Lake Placid and Sebring, about 11:30 a.m. That highway crossing will come about an hour after a traditional stop at 10:30 a.m. at Cracker Trail Elementary School.
