Kathryn Queen Myers
Kathryn Queen “Queenie” Myers, 87, of Lake Placid, died Sunday morning, Nov. 25, 2012, at Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center in Sebring.
Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Cedartown, Ga. to Kizzie (Dunwoody) and Hugh Queen, her family moved to Florida when she was a young girl. The family resided in several cities including Miami, Kissimmee and Freeport before moving to Sebring in 1988.
Mrs. Myers wrote a column “Walk With Me” for the News-Sun and was a member of the Writers Group in Sebring. She volunteered many hours with the Ridge Arc and was of the Methodist faith where she served with the Mary Martha group. She enjoyed her many animals, and was known as the “Country Girl” to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Myers; son, Wayne Myers; and grandson, Joshua Cooper. She is survived by her children, George Myers (Karen), Bonnie Shackleford (Harold) and Judy Cooper (Steve); grandchildren, Keith Myers, Chad Myers (Kathy), Misty Masengale (Ron), Annissa Whaley (Kip), Minette Martin and Shane Mines; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Myers’ life was Thursday Nov. 29 at the Leisure Lakes Baptist Church with Rev. Don Roberts officiating. The family suggest donations in Mrs. Myers’ memory to the Ridge Arc, 120 West College Drive, Avon Park, FL 33825.
Cremation arrangements were entrusted with Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
