Jane Torrance Bartholomew

Jane Torrance Bartholomew, 96, of Lake Placid, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 20, 2012, in Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring after a brief stay.

A native of Ohio, she was born April 10, 1916, to Dora and Ralph Torrance of Conneaut. She earned an accounting degree in college and worked as a bookkeeper for a short time before joining her husband in their business ventures as owners of a real estate investment company in Warren, Ohio, and shoe stores in Jamestown, N.Y., Warren, Ohio and Erie, Pa.

Mrs. Bartholomew and her husband, Cecil, wintered in Lake Placid for a number of years before settling here in 2001 from Jamestown, N.Y. In her spare time Jane enjoyed water coloring and golf. She was an active member in the Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bartholomew is survived by a son, John of St. Petersburg; a sister, Mary Lu Chidester of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Peter (Tin) of Beverly, Mass., Jeffery of Rochester, N.Y., and Steven of Charlotte, N.C.; and great grandson Andrew of Beverly, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband in 2001, and a son, Ronald, in 1998.

A memorial service will be held in April at Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial arrangements are under the devotion of Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
