Demearl C. Porter
Demearl “Pete” C. Porter, 84, of Sebring, died Monday morning,
Dec. 31, 2012, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring.
A native Floridian, she was born in Miami on Dec. 23, 1928, to Mary (Grimsley) and Adrian Cottle. Mrs. Porter moved from Miami to Immokalee where she was the owner and operator of Porter’s Beauty Shop, then moving to Sebring 35 years ago. Mrs. Porter was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Porter is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Sr., and she is survived by her children Arthur Porter, Jr. of Lehigh Acres, Brenda Lee of Lake Placid, and Gloria Schmitten of Ft. Lauderdale; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Porter’s life was at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine with Dr. Kevin M. Ahrens officiating. Inurnment services will take place at a later date at the Garden of Memories in Kelly, N.C.
The family suggest donations be made in Mrs. Porter’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine memorial fund.
Cremation arrangements were entrusted with Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
