Shirley Ann Harrod Arnett of Milton, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, with her family by her side. She was 73.

Born in Cottondale on July 15, 1939, to Vera Ellen Thomas and Jesse Daniel Harrod, she dedicated much of her life to working in the Florida school system where she eventually retired after doing everything from driving a school bus, working in the school lunch room, with disabled children and as a library assistant. She lived most of her life in Florida but, briefly, lived in North Carolina where she enjoyed the mountains with her late husband, William “Jim” Arnett.

Mrs. Arnett is remembered as a loving, kind and giving lady who was always soft-spoken.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; and sisters, Willa, Mary Lou, and Eunice. She is survived by three children, Kevin, Kelly and Kimball; grandchildren Stephan, Matthew, Bradley and Hunter; and great-grandchildren to Landon and Kyle.

A funeral service for Mrs. Arnett was Monday at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. Burial followed in the Milton Cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her late husband.

this just breaks my heart. I hadn't seen Shirley in years, and now I see this. She gave me my Mickey, our little Dachshund we had for years. I was working at Publix at the time. I'm so sorry to see this..God rest her soul. She's in a better place, from where we all are..my heart goes out to you all.
