Donald Scott Newton, Sr.

Donald Scott Newton, Sr., 82, of Lake Placid, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2013.

A native of Ohio, he was born Nov. 8, 1930, to Nellie and Clyde Newton of Hamilton. He entered the U.S. Navy after graduation and was a Korean Conflict veteran. Mr. Newton then graduated from the University of Miami with an accounting degree. He was a self-employed Certified Public Accountant for many years, serving Broward and Highlands counties. He retired in 2010. Mr. Newton came to Lake Placid in 1997 from Ft. Lauderdale. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Placid where he served as head usher; and the Lake Placid American Legion Post where he was the finance officer. He enjoyed golfing.

Mr. Newton is survived by his wife, Louise K. Foerster, whom he wed August 21, 1998, in Sebring; children Lynne Ann Nees (Michael) of St. John, Ind., Victoria Marie Garcia (Danny) of Wilton Manor, Donald Scott Jr. (Cindy) of Wilton Manor, Timothy George (Melony) of Longwood, Kelly Monaghan (Michael) of Charlotte, N.C., and Heather Dray of Atlanta; sister Carolyn Newton of Johnson City, Tenn; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was Friday at 4 p.m. at Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home in Lake Placid with Reverend Richard Norris officiating.
