John William Heringa

John William Heringa, 73, of Lake Placid, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Born Nov. 27, 1939, in Chicago to Ella (Mulder) and Bernard Heringa, he received a degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1964. In 1970 he fulfilled requirements and was granted a Certified Public Accountant certificate. Mr. Heringa retired in 2001 and shortly thereafter moved to Lake Placid from Grand Rapids, Mich. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, reading, watching old movies, boating, fishing and golf. As a young man he enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing.

Mr. Heringa is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna; daughter Marcia Heringa Page (Richard); grandsons Jacob and Joseph of Athens, Ga; and a sister, Judith Heringa of Grand Rapids, Mich.

A service to celebrate Mr. Heringa’s life was at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Scott Funeral Home with Rev. Richard A. Norris officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Mr. Heringa’s memory to the National Down Syndrome Congress, 30 Mansell Ct., Suite 108, Roswell, GA 30076 or at http://ndsccenter.org/donate/.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
