Rollin R. (Saxy) Smith of Lake Placid died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. He was 90.

Born in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Smith was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., he was a former editor of the Lovington Reporter. Mr. Smith moved to Springfield, Ill. to serve as an aide to the Governor of Illinois. He married his wife, Susan, in Avon Park in 1994 and they settled in Lake Placid in 2002. Mr. Smith was a member of the Highlands County Concert Band, the Highlandaires and also the Star Dusters.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; daughters, Linda Moody of Dallas, Texas and Cindy Meier of Elgin, Ill; son Ken Mitchell Smith of Littleton, Mass; sisters Louise Wickline of Decatur, Ill. and Eileen Ernst of Mt. Zion, Ill; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be placed at Sarasota National Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted with Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring.
