Roy Douglas Beavers

Roy Douglas Beavers, 87, of Lake Placid, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center in Sebring.

Born Feb. 17, 1925, in War, W.V. to Myrtle (Forbes) and George Walter Beavers, he served in the Marine Division of the Naval Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Beavers worked for the Burroughs Corp. for 32 years and then 12 years as Vice President of Executone Telephone in the Miami office.

Mr. Beavers was Exalted Ruler of the Fraternal Order of Elks and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bluefield, W.V. He served an elder at Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Miami and at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid.

Mr. Beavers was married to Kathleen (Walk) for 67 years. They have three daughters, Becky Morris (John) of Hilton Head, S.C., Barbara Hardin (Tim) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Janet Harrold (Dale) of Ft. Lauderdale. They have six grandchildren, Beth Field of Bluffton, S.C., Kathleen Hale and Claire Johnson, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Brian Harrold, Coffeeville of Kan., and Jamie Harrold of Ft. Lauderdale; and seven-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson Thomas Beavers Morris.

Arrangements were entrusted to Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
