Bradford T. Bowen, Jr.

Bradford T. Bowen, Jr., 90, of Lake Placid, Commander USNR (Ret), died early Tuesday morning Jan. 29, 2013.

Born in Providence, R.I. on
July 16, 1922, he graduated from East Providence High School and Rhode Island State College. Mr. Bowen moved to Florida in 1946 and to Highlands County in 1960. He was a Baptist, past president and founder of Bowen & Sons Roofing Co,. Inc. in Sebring, president of the Age of Travel in Lake Placid. Mr. Bowen was also past president of the Florida Roofing, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association, past president of Highlands Heartland Chapter of the State Nurseryman’s Association, past president of the Highlands Shrine Club, past president of Lake Placid Lions Club, a member of Lake Placid Elks Lodge 2661, Lake Placid Noon Rotary, VFW, Lake Placid Masonic Lodge and American Legion.

Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dorothy Faye Bowen (Monroe) of Lake Placid; a son, Brad Bowen III (Laura); grandson, Brad Bowen IV, all of Sebring; five stepchildren, John Lipscomb, Jim Lipscomb, Pam (Lipscomb) Spinuzzi, Ronnie Lipscomb, and Linda Sue Walker; seven step-grandchildren and nine great-step-grandchildren.

The family celebrated Mr. Bowen’s life with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Lake Placid Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Memorial arrangements were under the direction of Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
