LPPD says traffic tickets down, driver safety up in 2012
The Lake Placid Police Department strongly believes in the three E’s of traffic safety: Engineering, Enforcement and Education. Of the three, enforcing and educating are the two used by officers each day. Officer’s discretion gives police the ability to either issue a traffic offender a citation (enforcement) or a warning (education).
With the economy still on the mend, Lake Placid Police Department officers used their discretion in issuing warnings over expensive citations last year. In 2012, officers issued 324 warnings, compared to 143 in 2011. Those 324 warnings also top the 242 citations issued in 2012.
