Wreth Atwell, 102, of Lake Wales, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale due to natural causes.

Wretha resided in Lake Wales since early childhood. She held several jobs in the community, but the one which she was most proud was her 18 years as a cook at “The Barrel” in downtown Lake Wales where she was known and loved by everyone. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Atwell was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas J. Jones in 1947; her second husband, Sherwood Atwell in 1997; and her son, Jeff D. Jones in 2001.

Survivors include her son, Howard Jones of Las Vegas, Nev.; her daughter, Mary Gabriel of Las Vegas, Nev.; her daughter, Lee Lance of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Lake Wales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to any charity of choice.
