Every second Saturday of the month, beginning on Dec. 8, area residents and visitors are invited to tour the campus and meet artists and instructors at the Open Studio located on Old Englewood Road. There’s no charge for the monthly Open House tour that begins at 3 p.m. People who bring a dish to share are welcome to join in a 5 p.m. jam session and potluck supper served on the Open Studio grounds. Musicians are encouraged to jam with the group around a blazing fire pit, and it’s a great opportunity to discover more about healthy living, meet new friends, and sign up for classes. A new event, a First Annual Collectible Holiday Ornament Sale, will be featured this month when Master Potter, Cricket Thorne, will be offering star-shaped, dated ornaments made from sparkled marbled clay for sale at a cost of $8. In an effort to encourage more community participation, Thorne plans to sponsor a holiday ornament contest. Artists are invited to submit their designs for consideration, and the winning entry will be featured as the Open Studio’s 2013 collectible ornament next year.
Those touring the Therapeutic Arts Building during the Open House will be greeted by Sue Drummer, Beverly Katchen, Katherine Jouan, and Laura Arena who teach ongoing classes. Drummer has studied Yang Style Tai Chi Chan, short form and long form for 15 years. Katchen, who believes in a holistic approach to health, is a licensed massage therapist who has been practicing therapeutic arts since 1996. Jouan, a licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Integrative Health coach, is the founder of SimplyOrganix, a “live food” business. Arena, a weaver and spinner since 1976, returns this year to teach Open Weaving classes.
