You don’t have to ride a horse (unless you want to) in the upcoming Dearborn Street Parade of Lights being sponsored by EACF, the Englewood Area Cancer Foundation. However, Marshall Dillon (David Dignam) and Miss Kitty (Linda Stevens) will lead the way on horseback when the parade begins, weather permitting, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 at W. Dearborn Street.

Organizers expect a number of brilliantly lighted floats will participate in the Western-themed event honoring local cancer warriors. Marchers, bicyclists and motorcyclists are welcome to join this community parade. No entry fee is required, and all are invited to carry “anything that flickers” — iPods, candles or flashlights. The idea, according to the grassroots community organization’s founder, Lou Long, is “to point toward the sky in symbolic remembrance, as light symbolizes the heavens.”
