Man faces second child abuse charge
VENICE — A man arrested this week for allegedly choking and battering an 11-year-old boy faces a second child abuse charge for reportedly doing the same thing on the same day to the boy’s 4-year-old brother.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s report, the victim’s mother called the Sheriff’s Office Wednesday to report that Edward Henry Prall, 35, assaulted her 11-year-old son several times after school Tuesday. When she arrived home from work, the boy told her about the attack, saying Prall choked him, banged his head on the dining room table, pushed the table into his chest while he was sitting in a chair against the wall, and punched him in the stomach. Prall was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with child abuse. A state Department of Children and Families investigator assigned to the case interviewed the younger boy on Wednesday, who told her Prall “slapped him in the face and choked him to the point where he could not breathe” later on Tuesday, the report shows. Police met with the mother and the 4-year-old, and observed red markings on the child’s face and bruising on the back of his neck. Another sibling interviewed said that Prall had smacked the younger boy because he had soiled himself. Prall then went into the victim’s bedroom and broke his bed, the report states. When Prall was taken into custody on the first charge Wednesday afternoon, he admitted he “lost control,” the report shows. He was charged with the second count of child abuse shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sarasota County Jail. He remained behind bars without bond Thursday.
