Thaxton: Time on commission has been ‘humbling’

SARASOTA COUNTY — When the Sarasota County Commission meeting came to an end Wednesday, it also closed the curtain on Commissioner Jon Thaxton’s 12-year run on the board and ended an era of Sarasota County politics.
“It’s been an extraordinarily humbling position,” said Thaxton, 54, who received a standing ovation from his fellow commissioners and dozens of county staff members at the end of Wednesday’s meeting. “It has caused me to be more appreciative to be a resident of Sarasota County than I ever dreamed was possible.”
