Anthony J. Miessen

Anthony “Tony” J. Miessen, 84, of North Port, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Seattle, Wash.

Anthony moved to North Port in 1989, from Annandale, Minn. He was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church, where he also was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 323 in Clearwater, Minn.

Anthony is survived by his wife of nine years, Geraldine (nee Hackett); daughters, Suzanne (John) Colbeth of Brooklyn, Minn., Nancy (Dan) Happe of St. Cloud, Minn., Barbara (Dale) Cochran of Seminole, Fla.; sons, Peter Miessen of Maple Lake, Minn., Michael Miessen, and James Miessen both of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; step-sons, Vincent Hackett Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Michael (Sue) Hackett of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren, LeeAnn Steffen-Ferguson, Anthony Colbeth, John Colbeth Jr., Katie Schepers, Joanna Happe, Jessica Cochran, Corey Cochran, Shanna Cochran, Dale Cochran Jr., Ryan Miessen, Mike Hackett Jr., Kathy Schwab, Tom Hackett, Laura Hackett, Robert Hackett; and four great-grandchildren. Anthony was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Mary (nee Bruns) Miessen.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. at San Pedro Catholic Church Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. A reception at LaCasa will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 or to San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL 34287.

Arrangements are by Farley Funeral Home in North Port.
